A little while ago we asked you guys to submit YOUR questions for
Tokio Hotel that are related to the AUTOMATIC video. We picked ten
of them and Bill, Tom, Gustav & Georg answered them in an
exclusive interview above the clouds. Enjoy!
What's the reason that you guys picked Automatic as your
first single from your album Humanoid?
Bill- I think it was one of the last songs we
wrote for the record, and it was uhm, I think it was just the right
feeling, and the right energy and everything. So it just sort of (I
don't understand what he says here). We went in the studio and
everybody said "ok, that would be our first single" and that's
it.
Do you have a favorite scene in the Automatic
video?
Tom- Favorite scene...
Georg- I love all the car scenes
Tom- Yeah
Georg- I love those cars
Tom- We had some scenes when Georg was on the
toilet, and did some, did some big business.
Bill- But for serious I really liked the scenes
where I, I'm standing you know, somewhere, nowhere and they're, the
cars moving around me, and I'm standing there. And I think the
light and everything was really beautiful, and I think it was one
of the first shots we did for this video, and it, it was really
great.
This is already your second video that you shot in South
Africa - What's so special about this country?
Tom- I think in South Africa you have a really
good and special locations, and the good thing about shoot was we
had a great safari hotel, and we had breakfast with uhm
Georg- Gebheart(?)
Tom- Yeah, Gebheart(?)
How long did it take you to shoot the video?
Tom- It wasn't that shoot, just five days in the
middle of nowhere in the desert and you have just great locations
and yeah.
Why has your sound become so electronic in this
song?
Tom- It was just Automatic
Bill- Yeah, it just happened in the studio, where
we didn't plan it in advance or something we just went in the
studio and I think we want to try new things out, and try new
things with the voice with some new instruments, and uhm we created
like a new sound world for Tokio Hotel.
Did you leave the Tokio Hotel sound from your previous
albums behind?
Bill- I think it's still, it's still the old
sound, but with some new parts in it.
Tom- Yeah.
Bill- And uhm, yeah it just happened it was not
planned. Yeah but I think it's just fresh and something new, and
that's what we wanted for this record.
Where did the idea for this song come from? Do these ideas
just pop up in your head or is it a personal experience? How does
it work?
Tom- I think the inspiration is just everywhere.
You have like uhm, the last, the last records we wrote sometimes on
tour, and for this album we, it wasn't (mumbles) that we have
enough time, just go in the studio and do nothing, and just, just
focus on your own stuff, and on your own music. It was important
for us we had nearly one year to produce a record, and...
Bill- I think you collect your ideas on the road,
so I have always something with me.
Tom- But you wrote them down in the studio, so it
was more studio, real studio album, and studio work.
In the Automatic video you're driving some awesome cars.
What's your favorite car in real life?
Tom- I also like muscle cars, I like the uhm, I
like American cars. I have a Cadillac, I have, and I also love
Audi, and uhm yeah.
Bill-(mumbles) I have an Audi, I have an Audi Q7,
the new one. And uhm yeah, I think it's cool to have nice cars, but
it's not the most important thing for me. But uhm, I really love
this one, it's a great car.
Georg- I really love those old American muscle
cars, for example the Ford Mustang is really great.
Gustav- I drove the Pontiac GTO and I definitely
know I will have this car in my life, but I don't know when.
Tom- I mean it's just important nothing for, for
Georg and Gustav that they have a speed limiter in their cars for
maybe
Georg- Maybe 20 Mph
Tom- Maybe 20 Mph
Gustav- No, no, no, that's too fast for me, that's
too fast.
Tom- I think that's ok Gustav.
Gustav- No it's too fast.
Do you guys feel that you are behaving Automatically a
lot?
Bill- I think there are some parts in your life
that you do Automatic like brushing teeth in the morning
Tom- That's not Automatic for Georg, but you
know.
Georg- Oooooh
Tom- (Something I don't understand) to be
Automatic.
Bill- Life in general you try to be just, you
know, yourself and natural and just do stuff...
Tom- And always trying to be honest and do not
vent Automatic (something)
Bill- Because I hate Automatic people, so I try to
be just, or we all try to be just ourselves and yeah.
The Automatic video also features two robots- Will robots
also be part of your stage during the next tour?
Bill- I think the robots are really and I, I like
the whole Tokio Hotel design with the faces and everything. So
maybe we, maybe it's a part of the show, but it's not, it's not
fixed and...
Tom- We have a great new stage design, and uhm
yeah, we are still in the creative process of the stage, but...
Bill- We saw just the first paintings for the stage, and I think really yeah, it's really Humanoid City, so we really bring a new city in the town where we go. And there are a lot of things going on.
