Pünktlich zum Mauerfall-Jubiläum haben die europäischen MTV Awards die Hauptstadt übernommen. Während U2 am Brandenburger Tor spielte und Tokio Hotel fast die Bühne abfackelte, machte der Abend vor allem eines klar: Die Zukunft des Königshauses Pop ist gesichert. Von Sophie Albers

Stoppt die Druckpressen, und holt die Spähtrupps zurück. Die 16. MTV Europe Music Awards haben vor allem eines bewiesen: Wir müssen uns um das Königreich Pop keine Sorgen machen. Ja, der König ist tot. (Natürlich wurde Michael Jackson auch an diesem Abend mit einer Hommage geehrt. Die war sogar lustig und schön: Leute von der Straße sangen seine Hits.) Doch wer es nicht eh schon geahnt hat, dem sei es noch einmal gesagt: Bill Kaulitz hat sich die Krone geholt. Der Sänger von Tokio Hotel wirkt ebenso mysteriös und androgyn wie König Michael in seinen besten Zeiten. Nur für den Moonwalk muss sich das Pop-Volk jemand anderen suchen.

Und dann dieses verzweifelte Fahnden nach einer Nachfolgerin für Madonna. Dabei ist die neue Königin längst da, eingearbeitet, und sie regiert in prachtvoller Schönheit, wenn auch mit strenger Hand: Beyoncés Auftritt in einer monströsen Pralinenschachtel hat die Katy Perrys und Lady Gagas auf ihre Plätze verwiesen. Das war Pomp, Protz und Pop in Vollendung.

Überhaupt Katy Perry. Trotz Strapsen, Herzchen auf der zur Schau gestellten Unterhose, Bettstiefeln und dem ewig zum O geformten Mund hatte das Sternchen, das den Abend moderieren durfte, ungefähr so viel Sexappeal wie der dicke, lederbejackte Einheizer, der in den alle 20 Minuten die Show zerschneidenden Werbepausen auf die Bühne sprang, um die rund 9000 Zuschauer bei Laune zu halten. Nein, eine Frau ist nicht frech und sexy, nur weil sie die beiden Worte pausenlos wiederholt. Perrys Witze waren langweilig und nervig. Zuweilen wirkte die perfekte Show wie abgewickelt, weil ja uninteressant für den US-Markt.

Beyoncé wollte ihren Preis für die beste Künstlerin gleich an Shakira weitergeben. Sie hatte ja schon zwei. Viele der Stars schienen gar nicht richtig da zu sein. Aber das war wohl auch der kurzen Aufmerksamkeitspanne der TV-Kameras geschuldet.

Kollektive Hysterie bei Tokio Hotel
Zwei Höhepunkte hatte der durchwachsene Abend: den Auftritt von Tokio Hotel und die Live-Schalte zum Gratiskonzert von U2 am Brandenburger Tor.

Das Schöne an Tokio Hotel sind neben der Steigerungsfähigkeit der ehemaligen Schülerband aus Magdeburg die Fans. Als die Jungs kurz vor 22.30 Uhr auf die Bühne kommen, plaudert Katy Perry wichtig mit Pete Wentz, Placebo und Juliette Lewis. Doch das interessiert in der riesigen O2-Arena niemanden. Das Tokio-Hotel-typische Schreien fängt an. MTV Awards? Egal? U2? Egal. Wiedervereinigung? Egal! Schließlich wartet Bill Kaulitz in schwarzem Leder und mit Sonnenbrille auf seinen Einsatz. Als er endlich singen darf und hinter ihm auch noch Flammensäulen aufsteigen, ist der dünne Junge wirklich ein König des Pop. Da fängt sogar das Schlagzeug Feuer.

Die Könige des Rock sind es wiederum, die mal eben die deutsche Geschichte kapern. U2 dürfen, was Barack Obama verwehrt blieb: vor der Kulisse des Brandenburger Tors auftreten. Berlin wird zum Stadion, und das Leuchten von Telefondisplays ersetzt die Feuerzeuge, als die Rock-Veteranen zum Abschluss "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" spielen. Jay-Z ist auch mit dabei und ließ sich von historischer Bedeutungsschwere zum Pathos hinreißen: "Ich freue mich auf die Zeit, wenn alle Mauern fallen und es nur noch um Musik geht". Aber es geht doch nur ums Geld, Dummkopf, möchte man sagen. Lässt man dann aber doch, denn in dieser Blase aus Pop, Opulenz und Wir-Gefühl hat die Realität gerade Pause.

La seizième édition des MTV Europe Music Awards a prouvé une chose : nous ne devons pas nous inquiéter pour le royaume de la Pop. Oui, le Roi est mort. (Bien sûr, Michael Jackson a aussi reçu un hommage lors de cette soirée. Qui était à la fois drôle et belle : des gens dans la rue chantaient ses hits.) Mais ce dont personne ne se doutait doit être redit encore une fois : Bill Kaulitz a repris la couronne. Le chanteur deTokio Hotel a l’air aussi mystérieux et androgyne que le Roi Michael pendant sa meilleure période. Le peuple de la Pop devra simplement chercher quelqu’un d’autre pour le moonwalk.

Et ensuite, cette recherche désespérée d’un successeuse pour Madonna. Pourtant, la nouvelle reine est là depuis longtemps, bien intégrée, et elle règne dans une splendide beauté, malgré sa poigne de fer : l’apparition de Beyoncé dans une énorme boîte de pralinés a renvoyé les Katy Perry et les Lady Gaga à leur place. C’était tout en pompe, avec juste de ce qu’il faut d’orgueil, la Pop dans toute sa splendeur.

A propos de Katy Perry. Malgré des porte-jarretelles, des petits cœurs sur les sous-vêtements qu’elle exposait, des bottes, et sa bouche toujours en forme de O, la star, qui a dû présenter la soirée, avait à peu près autant de sex-appeal que le gros homme habillé en cuir qui, toutes les vingt minutes, lors des publicités, montait sur scène pour que les 9000 spectateurs restent chauds. Non, une femme n’est pas audacieuse et sexy seulement parce qu’elle répète plusieurs fois deux mots sans se tromper. Les blagues de Katy Perry étaient ennuyantes et énervantes. De temps à autre, le show était parfait, comme cela avait été conclu, mais plutôt inintéressant pour le marché US.

Beyoncé voulait donner son prix reçu dans la catégorie meilleure artiste féminine à Shakira. Elle en avait déjà eux. Beaucoup de stars avaient l’air d’être absentes. Mais c’était aussi totalement la faute des caméras de la télévision qui n’y faisaient pas attention.


L’hystérie collective chez Tokio Hotel.

Il y a eu deux moments forts lors de cette soirée : la performance de Tokio Hotel, et le concert en plein air de U2 devant la Porte de Brandebourg.

La beauté de Tokio Hotel, à côté de la capacité d’amélioration d’un ancien groupe d’école de Magdebourg, c’est les fans. Alors que les garçons montent sur scène, peu avant 22h30, Katy Perry discute beaucoup avecPete Wentz, Placebo et Juliette Lewis. Mais ça n’intéressait personne dans l’énorme O2-Arena. Le cri typique de Tokio Hotel commence. Les MTV Awards ? On s’en fout. U2 ? On s’en fout. La réunification ? On s’en fout ! Finalement, Bill Kaulitz attend le top-départ habillé de cuir noir et avec les lunettes de soleil. Quand il doit enfin commencer à chanter, et que des flammes montent encore derrière lui, le maigre garçon a vraiment l’air d’un Roi de la Pop. Le feu de la batterie commence lui aussi.

En revanche, nous avons les Rois du Rock qui capturent l’Histoire allemande. U2 a le droit de faire ce qui reste interdit à Barack Obama : jouer devant le décor de la Porte de Brandebourg. Berlin est devenue une salle de concert, et la lumière des téléphones portables et des appareils photos remplace les briquets pendant que les vétérans du rock jouent « Sunday Bloody Sunday ». Jay-Z est aussi de la partie, et s’est laissé emporter par l’émotion historique dont le moment était rempli : « Je me réjouis d’avance du jour où tous les murs tomberont et où tout ne sera que musique. » Mais tout tourne autour de l’argent, idiot, devrait-on dire. Mais ensuite, on se laisse aller, car dans cette bulle de la Pop, d’opulence et de sensation d’être ensemble, la réalité est sur pause.

Die MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 wurden gestern in der O2 World in Berlin vergeben! Aber wer konnte sich über eine der Auszeichnungen freuen?

Beyoncé war die Gewinnerin des Abends! Bei den diesjährigen MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 nahm die Sängerin und Songwriterin gleich drei der begehrten Trophäen mit nach Hause: Best Female, Best Song und Best Video!

Und natürlich dürfen bei den MTV EMAs auch coole Live-Auftritte nicht fehlen: Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Green Day, Leona Lewis, Tokio Hotel, Foo Fighters, Shakira und U2 rockten das Haus.

Moderiert wurde die Show wie im Vorjahr von Katy Perry, als Laudatoren standen unter anderem die Jonas Brothers, Joss Stone, Brody Jenner, Miranda Cosgrove, David Hasselhoff & Co. auf der Bühne.

Tokio Hotel Get Epic With MTV Europe Music Awards Performance
Band pays tribute to Berlin Wall's fall during hometown performance.

Tokio Hotel's Bill and Tom Kaulitz were just 2 months old when the Berlin Wall, which for decades had separated Germany into two separate political states, came tumbling down. Twenty years later, in the same city, they decided to pay tribute to that momentous event with their performance at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards on Thursday (November 5).

Taking the stage silhouetted only by four spotlights, as their hometown fans screamed with delight, Tokio Hotel began the somber buildup of "World Behind My Wall," a track from their just-released Humanoid album. Backed by a video display that showed the symbolic dissolving of a brick wall, frontman Bill Kaulitz — wearing dark wraparound shades and a tight black leather jacket — sang the opening refrains, the crowd joining him on each syllable.

He then removed the sunglasses and strode across the stage, joining his TH bandmates — including bassist Georg Listing on piano — as the song began to pick up steam. Bill's brother (and Tokio Hotel guitarist) Tom worked a decidedly Edge-ian melody out of his ax, and drummer Gustav Schafer pounded hard on his kit.

"Wall" built to a fiery crescendo, with Bill screaming the chorus inches from his brother's face, as an image of the Berlin Wall itself appeared on the video screen. As the song hit its most massive section, the stage was filled with licks of pyro, streams of red lasers and massive explosions, as Bill thrust his fist skyward and sang the chorus loudly.

And just as quickly and massively as it built, the song disappeared into the night, and TH stood triumphantly in the middle of the stage, amps still smoking, Listing plinking out the song's final notes on a piano engulfed in flames.

It was a fitting tribute, indeed.

Bill et Tom Kaulitz de Tokio Hotel n'avaient que deux mois quand le Mur de Berlin, qui a séparé l'Allemagne en deux Etats politiquement distincts pendant des décennies, est finalement tombé. Vingt ans après, dans la même ville, ils ont décidé de rendre hommage à cet évènement monumental avec leur performance lors des MTV Europe Music Awards 2009 qui ont eu lieu jeudi (5 novembre).

Prenant d'assaut la scène éclairée par seulement quatre projecteurs, alors que leurs fans criaient en se réjouissant, les Tokio Hotel ont commencé leur performance de « World Behind My Wall », un morceau tiré de leur album Humanoid tout juste sorti. Avec derrière lui une vidéo qui montrait la destruction symbolique d'un mur, le leader Bill Kaulitz – qui portait des lunettes de soleil sombres et une veste en cuir étroite – a chanté le refrain d'ouverture, la foule l'accompagnant pour chaque syllabe.

Il a ensuite enlevé les lunettes de soleil et a fait de grandes foulées sur la scène pour rejoindre ses acolytes de TH – dont le bassiste Georg Listing au piano – alors que la chanson commençait à monter. Le frère de Bill (et guitariste de Tokio Hotel) Tom a lancé une mélodie avec sa guitare, et le batteur Gustav Schäfer a frappé fort sur son instrument.

Le « mur » s'est construit de plus en plus vite, avec Bill criant les refrains devant le visage de son frère, pendant qu'une image du Mur de Berlin lui-même est apparue sur l'écran. Lorsque la chanson atteignait sa partie la plus massive, la scène a été envahie par des flammes, des lasers rouges et des explosions massives, pendant que Bill tendait son poing vers le ciel et chantait le refrain haut et fort.

Et aussi rapidement et massivement qu'elle s'était construite, la chanson a disparue dans la nuit, et les TH sont restés au milieu de la scène, triomphants, alors que de la fumée sortait encore des amplis, et Listing a joué les dernière notes de la chanson sur un piano englouti par les flammes.

Ce fut effectivement un hommage à la hauteur de l'évènement.

MTV EMAs In Berlin

Beyonce won a hat-trick of awards at the 16th MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) at Berlin's O2 World Arena, which also marked the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The ceremony was also notable for a third MTV EMAs honor for German pop-rock act Tokio Hotel - the band also won in 2007 and 2008 - and the live performance by U2 with Jay-Z as surprise guest in front of the Brandenburg Gate. An audience numbering over 9,000 in the arena witnessed a show lasting over two hours that provided a spectacular prelude to the celebrations marking the anniversary of German reunification.

Beyoncé was greeted with a standing ovations when, wearing a scarlet bodice replete with red suspenders, she emerged from a gigantic red box. She then went on to receive three awards, one for best singer, another for best song for "Halo" and the third one for best video for "Single Ladies." Visibly touched, she thanked her husband saying "there's only one person I want to thank and that's Jay-Z, who put a ring on my finger." Jay-Z won the award for best urban act, to which he responded: "I am looking forward to the time when all the walls fall and it's all only about music."

After performing their hit "World Behind My Wall" with twelve-meter high flame throwers behind them, Tokio Hotel went on to win the award for best group, beating Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Jonas Brothers and Kings Of Leon. Host Katy Perry referred to Tokio Hotel as the best example of German reunification, explaining that all the band members had come from eastern Germany. Bill Kaulitz, the lead singer of Tokio Hotel, commented: "We had not expected to beat all these great bands. We are very proud and thank you for your love, energy and unerring support." Their fans in the audience at the O2 World responded with a deafening concert of screams lasting several minutes...

Mega-Auftritt mit Flammen und Kreischalarm
MTV-Awards: Tokio Hotel als beste Band gekrönt

Mit einem Mega-Auftritt räumten Tokio Hotel am Donnerstag bei den MTV Awards in der Berliner „O2 Arena“ ab.

Sie hatten die lautesten Fans, die spektakulärste Bühnenshow, den Sänger mit der verrücktesten Frisur – sie sind die beste Band! Und dafür bekamen sie einen Award.

„Diese Auszeichnung macht uns glücklich und stolz“, sagte Bill Kaulitz auf Englisch in seiner Dankesrede.

Damit setzten sich Tokio Hotel gegen Bands wie Green Day oder Kings of Leon durch. Es war bereits das dritte Mal in Folge, dass die Band bei den MTV European Music Awards einen Preis bekam.

Zuvor spielte Tokio Hotel auf der Bühne den Hit „The World Behind My Wall“ aus dem aktuellen Album „Humanoid“. Aber: Richtig live gesungen hat Bill Kaulitz nicht. Halbplayback! Geil war's trotzdem. Schreckmoment: Als meterhohe Flammen aus den Verstärkern und einem Klavier schossen. Einige Zuschauer vermuteten, dass die Feuershow nicht ganz reibungslos über die Bühne ging.

„Es stank sehr stark nach Verbranntem“, so ein Gast zu BILD.de. Doch Gefahr für Tokio Hotel hat zu keinem Zeitpunkt bestanden. Ein Crew-Mitarbeiter: „Es lief alles planmäßig ab.“

Planmäßig war auch das Gekreische in der Halle, sobald nur der Name Tokio Hotel erwähnt wurde. Nicht mal Beyoncé oder Shakira oder die Backstreet Boys erreichten mit ihren Auftritten den Lautstärkepegel von Tokio Hotel. Wahnsinn!

Nach der Show düsten Bill Kaulitz, sein Zwillingsbruder Tom, Gustav und Georg dann zum ehemaligen Flughafen Tempelhof. Dort fand im Hangar 2 die Aftershowparty ihrer Plattenfirma Universal statt.

Und wieder wurde gezündelt, dieses Mal aber nur mit dem Feuerzeug: Bill steckte sich – ganz der Rockstar – eine Kippe nach der anderen an.

Quelques spectateurs ont supposé que le show avec les flammes ne s’est pas totalement déroulé comme prévu.

« Ca sentait très fort après, » dit un invité à BILD.de. Mais à aucun moment, les Tokio Hotel n’ont été en danger. Un membre de l’équipe : « Tout a marché comme prévu. »

Les piaillements dans la salle lors de l’annonce du nom Tokio Hotel étaient eux aussi prévus. Ni Beyoncé, ni Shakira, ni les Backstreet Boys n’ont réussi à atteindre un tel niveau sonore lors de leurs apparitions. De la folie !

Après le show, Bill Kaulitz, son jumeau Tom, Gustav et Georg se sont dirigés vers l’ancien aéroport de Tempelhof. Là-bas, au terminal 2 avait lieu l’afterparty organisée par leur maison de disque Universal.

Et là-bas, on a encore joué avec le feu, mais seulement avec des briquets cette fois : Bill a fumé clope sur clope – comme la rockstar qu’il est.

Geht da was? Nach der MTV-Aftershow-Party wurde Bill von Tokio Hotel mit einer Blondine gesehen.

So nah wie sie kommt ihm keine. Auch in der heißen EMA-Nacht im Hangar 2 (Tempelhof), wo Bill Kaulitz im abgesperrten Super-VIP-Bereich Kette qualmte, wandte sich die Blondine ihm immer wieder zärtlich zu. Wie B.Z. erfuhr, handelt es sich um Natalie Franz, Visagistin.

Doch dienstlich wirkten ihre Berührungen nicht. Unter Tokio-Hotel-Fans kursiert das Gerücht, dass da was läuft. Auch im Videoclip zu „Geisterfahrer“ rekelt sie sich in Bills Hotelsuite. Um 3.55 Uhr morgens bestiegen die beiden einen schwarzen Mercedes, der sie wohl zur Schlafstätte Ritz Carlton brachte.

Der Abend fing für „Tokio Hotel” hörte aber nicht nur gut auf – er fing schon perfekt an: Zuerst sahnten die vier Jungs einen Award als „Beste Band” ab – dann legten sie einen mega coolen Auftritt hin: Bill trug schwarze Stiefel mit 8 cm hohen Absätzen – trotzdem konnte er zu seinem neuen Hit „The World behind my Wall” (aus dem Album „Humanoid”) super geil abfeiern…

Wer ist das Mädchen mit der Bill verschwand?

Die wichtigste Frau in seinem Leben. Sie ist nämlich seine Leib-Visagistin, also für sein Make-up verantwortlich. Ihr Name: Natalie Franz (33). Ex-Model aus der Ukraine, verheiratet. Bill nennt sie „meine beste Freundin“. Deutschlands Teenie-Girls atmen auf.

If silver rocked the VMA red carpet, then black definitely ruled the MTV Europe Music Awards red carpet on Thursday (November 5). A galaxy of stars rocked the red carpet of the show, which was held in Berlin to honor the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The night's host, Katy Perry, may have donned a white gown on the red carpet, but it was the lacy black detailing that gave it that vintage Perry charm. Green Day went more formal than punk for the red carpet in their slim-fit suits, all of which were in shades of black or dark gray.

Pete Wentz also wore a black suit to the show, and he embellished his with a newsboy cap. His big fashion statement, however, was a cat-eye shaped black eye he drew on, using makeup.

Leona Lewis also wore black. She turned up in a one-piece, capri-length romper with sparkles on its bottom half. Nickelodeon star Miranda Cosgrove wore a blue-and-black-printed, one-shoulder, sequined minidress. Much like Cosgrove, the look was very young and hip.

The standout fashionistas of the show had to be Tokio Hotel, who surprisingly went for a more couture, mod look than their usual glam rock fashion choices. Bill Kaulitz, rocking a fantastic Mohawk, wore a slim-fitted blazer with sequined pockets and paired it with gray very skinny jeans. The other boys in the group decided to go with function instead of fashion and rocked their dark-colored winter jackets on the carpet.

Berlin loves Beyonce.

The R&B superstar scooped up three wins Thursday at the 16th annual MTV Europe Music Awards, including trophies for best female, best song for "Halo" and best video for her No. 1 smash, "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It.)"

When she won the best video award, she thanked Jay-Z — who just happens to be her husband — for "putting a ring on it."

Jay-Z was also honored, winning MTV Europe's best urban act — though he said he looked forward to the day when "all those awards come down" that it's just music, plain and simple, adding "Danke schoen" (thank you in German) before leaving the stage.

Other winners included Green Day, the established trio whose punk-influenced tunes have garnered it a fan legion worldwide. The trio won the award for best rock act while U2, which earlier Thursday performed a six-song mini-set in front of the German capital's iconic Brandenburg Gate, won best live act.

U2 frontman Bono paid tribute to Berlin, which marks the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall on Monday, for its grit and determination. The band recorded its LP "Achtung Baby" in the city and drew inspiration from reunification to write its oft-played single "One."

German pop quartet Tokio Hotel, which has toured steadfastly and built up a fan base outside of Germany won best group and played a set that saw its amps and equipment light up in organized pyrotechnics.

Lady Gaga took best new act though she was not in person, having had to stay in New York and Eminem took best male, beating out Kanye West, Mika, Robbie Williams and Jay-Z for award. Turkey's maNga took home the best European act, giving Turkey the award for the second consecutive year — last year the country's Emre Aydin scored a trophy.

Katy Perry, who hosted the show for the second consecutive year, lauded Berlin and Germany, citing its history of division by the wall and sported a bevy of toned-down yet sultry costumes that hearkened back to Berlin's Weimar-era of hedonism and decadence.

The telecast also featured performances by Foo Fighters, Leona Lewis and Shakira.

Berlin is the only city to host the awards show twice — in 1994 and this year — a decision MTV said it made to mark the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall's collapse.
